Installation instructions for the TJ inside rack

To install this rack, you’ll need basic hand tools with the exception of one tool that not everyone has, but should. Especially if you own a Jeep! This particular tool is called a tamper proof, T50 Torx bit. It’s a Torx bit with a hole in the end of it. You’ll need this tool to remove the two bolts on the factory roll bar.

Front Legs

Locate the two bolts on the roll bar. These bolts are facing toward the rear of the Jeep and have a bracket attaching the body to the roll bar. Remove these bolts and install the front legs noting left and right. The bolt will go through the largest slot on each leg. Snug the bolts down but don’t fully tighten them yet. You may have to level the rack once it’s installed. See the pics below.

Rear legs

Lift the carpet up that covers the wheel wells. You should see two rubber plugs, plugging the holes where the factory add-a-trunk is mounted. If you have a factory-installed add-a-trunk, you should see Nutserts installed. If you have these nutserts, you need to drill them out.

Below the Jeep under the tail light area is a black clip holding the black plastic liner to the underside of the body. You need to remove the clip so you can get your hand behind wheel well and tail light area and install the hardware for the rear mounting legs.

Use the 3/8x1” bolts and flat washer on the inside of the wheel well and a flat washer and locknut on the outside of the wheel well. Do not tighten the legs down just yet.

Rack

After all four legs are loosely installed, put the rack at an angle and slide it into the back of the Jeep. Having a friend here is a big help! Lift the rack up and place it on the legs. Use the 3/8x1.75” bolts to mount the rack to the legs and tighten. Do not over tighten! You can crush the square tubing if you aren’t careful. Once all four bolts going to the rack are secure, tighten up the rear legs and use the adjustment in the front legs to help level the rack if necessary.
